The Mercy University Hospital has announced that general visitor restrictions have been lifted and the hospital is now fully reopened to visitors.

Due to what it said were “a number of viruses currently circulating in the community”, the hospital implemented this precautionary measure to help protect both patients and staff on Wednesday last week.

They said at the time that the closure of the hospital to visitors for infection prevention and control reasons would be reviewed in 48 hours.

Requests for visiting on compassionate grounds was facilitated during the closure, with ward managers arranging this directly and approved visitors following guidance regarding hand hygiene and the use of PPE.

A spokesperson for the hospital said this morning: “We thank the public for their understanding and cooperation during this time. We kindly remind everyone not to visit if experiencing symptoms of illness.”
