Around 300 students from across Cork gathered at Cork City Hall recently for the annual Dream Your Career Day.

The event aimed to broaden students’ horizons, encouraging them to explore a wide range of career options.

More than 80 employers and apprenticeship stands were present, alongside representatives from Cork College of FET, MTU, UCC, and youth services such as Youth Health Services and Foróige.

Organised with the support of Cork ETB, the event was a collaborative effort between Youthreach, Cork Community Training Centres, and the Department of Social Protection.

The event featured a diverse range of career specialists, including conservation officers, medical practitioners, artists, representatives from Ryanair, Defence Forces personnel, and software engineers.

Students had the opportunity to engage directly with these professionals in a career expo format.

The Department of Social Protection was on hand to provide information on financial supports and programmes for students who are progressing to further education or employment.

Staff from Cork College of FET Bishopstown Campus shared updates on the range of apprenticeships and further education opportunities available.

The Dream Your Career Day event was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Cork Fergal Dennehy, who welcomed the students to City Hall.

Actor Shane Casey was on hosting duties for the day as the event MC.

Attendees were also greeted by Cork Unesco Learning City co-ordinator Denis Barrett.

“Cork ETB extends its sincere gratitude to all partners, employers, and supporters who contributed to making this event a memorable and impactful experience for students as they plan their next steps on their career journeys,” said a spokesperson for Cork ETB.

At the event, students made a special presentation to Cork ETB director of further education and training John Fitzgibbons in recognition of his steadfast support and leadership.
