A 12-year-old Cork boy with Down syndrome has written a series of books which will be published shortly.

In The Adventures of Gabe, Monkstown native Luke Stokes tells a collection of stories inspired by his white labrador pet dog, Gabe.

The books are an amalgamation of the passions of Luke’s life, which includes his love for telling stories.

The Adventures of Gabe series consists of five different stories. The first one is titled A Special Dog, about a dog who wants to be adopted by a new family and comes to the new family.

The other stories in the series focus on the adventures that the dog experiences with the family.

Jennifer Stokes, Luke’s mother, is full of pride in her son.

She told The Echo: “We are delighted for him. He loves stories, so we are delighted that he has decided to write them down.

“We are really proud of him, and he is really proud of himself.

“When we were away on holidays last year, Gabe wasn’t with us, and he missed him. So he thought he would write a story about him. That was the first one. After that, he decided that he would write a few more.

“They are children’s books that a kid could read themselves, or could be read to them.

“Luke is interested in different musicals and films and would find out about the stars in them. He can just really get into a certain story.”

The Adventures of Gabe will be available and downloadable on Amazon.
