Goggins Hill NS pupils embrace festive spirit of giving

Pupils of Goggins Hill National School recently held a Christmas Jumper Sale and donated the proceeds to the Crann Centre in Ovens.

Students at Goggins Hill National School recently held a Christmas Jumper Sale and have donated the proceeds to the Crann Centre in Ovens.

The school’s ‘Green Team’ works all year round to promote environmentally responsible habits across the school. Their initiatives include recycling paper and batteries, a preloved book sale, and the use of personal hand towels to reduce waste.

School principal, Mairead Burke said: “We are so proud of our super Green Team at this school. The initiatives they have run this year are simple yet impactful actions that have helped embed sustainability into daily school life.

“In the festive spirit of giving back, the Green Team combined their environmental focus with social responsibility by organising the second-hand Christmas Jumper sale. This initiative proudly brought the school’s December ethos value of community to life by donating the proceeds to the Crann Centre in Ovens.”

Ms Burke added: “This wonderful group of pupils are a shining example of how Goggins Hill National School nurtures active citizenship, environmental awareness and strong community spirit from an early age.”

The school chose the Crann Centre as the organisation of choice for the donation. Crann is a pioneering Irish charity which provides life-long, life-changing solutions for children, adults and families living with neuro-physical disabilities.

The Goggins Hill National School Parents’ Association, in conjunction with the Green Team, is also taking part in the Re-Turn bottle scheme over the Christmas holidays.

Families are encouraged to collect and return bottles and cans.
