Man allegedly left 17 voicemails in one day threatening ex-partner

A young woman was terrified when her ex-partner breached a domestic violence order sending her 17 voicemails in one day making threats to send parties over to her house “to kick the living shit” out of her.

Donal Daly solicitor said the defendant would adhere to an order to stay away and only have respectful communication in relation to access to children, or indeed he would have no communication whatsoever if required.

“If it is of any comfort to the lady he would stay out of the area where she lives,” Mr Daly said.

The case was dealt with at an in camera hearing of Cork District Court where the parties cannot be identified as the charge is brought under the Domestic Violence Act.

There was an objection to bail because of the seriousness of the allegations.

It is alleged that he breached a barring order on October 2 where he made contact with his ex-partner by voicemails.

One of the conditions of the barring order was that he would have no contact direct or indirect or by electronic means with his ex-partner.

It is alleged that between 9 a.m. and 7.50 p.m. on October 2 he sent her 17 voicemails.

Judge Mary Dorgan was told that in one of the communications he said that two named parties would call over to her house “to kick the living shit” out of her.

In another he alleged said he hoped she would die in her sleep.

And in another he threatened to ring the child and family agency Tusla and say that she is an unfit mother.

In his application for bail, the defendant said, “I sent one or two messages.” Donal Daly solicitor said the defendant would comply with any bail conditions and stay away from his ex-partner.

Judge Dorgan refused bail and remanded the accused in custody until October 9.
