Sergeant Aisling Murphy said the criminal damage incident occurred at around 9pm on May 2.
A window at the Travelodge on Kinsale Road roundabout was smashed by a 27-year-old man who verbally abused security staff at another premises as ‘motherf***ers’ and now he has been given a two-month jail term.
Judge Mary Dorgan imposed a sentence of five months, with the last three months suspended, in the case against Mohammed Moujahid who has been living at Cork Simon and St Vincent’s hostel since his arrival in Cork from Morocco five years ago.
Sergeant Aisling Murphy said the criminal damage incident occurred at around 9pm on May 2.
“Gardaí received a report that a former resident had smashed a window at the Travelodge. Gardaí spoke with security who informed them that this man had left the scene.
“After patrolling the area they located Mohammed Moujahid. He admitted smashing the window and was intoxicated,” Sgt Murphy said.
The same man admitted shoplifting at Tesco Express on South Main Street on July 30.
Last month, he came to the attention of security staff on August 9 at Daunt Square where he called them ‘motherf***ers’.
Sgt Murphy said that in the most recent incident involving this accused he was drunk and stumbling around near the Kinsale Road roundabout and when gardaí arrived he was threatening and abusive on August 26.
Judge Dorgan said the most serious incident outlined to the court was the criminal damage and on that offence the judge imposed a sentence of five months with the last three months suspended.
Eddie Burke, solicitor, said the accused apologised for his actions in the various incidents even though he had no recollection of them due to intoxication.
As for the public order matters Mr Burke said: “They seem to be verbal rather than any physical abuse.”
