Cork man aims to raise funds for his charity trip to South Africa

Next November Ballyhooley man Liam Dineen will be part of a large group of Irish volunteers travelling to South Africa to work for the Mellon Educate Building Blitz for 2025.

A Cork man is to organise a fundraising walk this month to raise funds for his trip to South Africa for the Mellon Educate Building Blitz for 2025.

Next November, Liam Dineen will be part of a large group of Irish volunteers travelling to South Africa to work on a mission to build better futures for children and communities there.

In November, Mr Dineen, from Ballyhooley, will be part of a group doing major works at two schools at Lwandle township in the town of Strand in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.

Before he sets off, he will have to raise the sum of €5,000 to cover all his costs and also make a substantial contribution to the Mellon Building Fund.

To kickstart his fundraising campaign, Mr Dineen is organising a walk from Barnane in Fermoy to Ballyhooley on Saturday, August 16. The plan is to get 50 walkers who will commit to raising €100 each.

It will be a leisurely walk, and refreshments will be available at journey’s end in Ballyhooley.

The walk will start at 12pm on the quayside in Fermoy beyond the Grand Hotel.

There will be a number of drop-off points on the route, with transport back to Ballyhooley if needed for those who wish to walk just some of the trek.
