Cork 'fourth-best' county in Ireland in which to live, says survey

Cork is ranked fourth in the most up-to-date edition of the Ireland Liveability Index of the best counties to live in.
The index looks at factors including scenery, house prices, and sunshine, as well as access to amenities and proximity to urban areas.
Cork scored well for proximity to city life, coming second nationally.
Cork also made the top 10 for natural amenities, thanks to its long coastlines, and it ranked eighth of the sunniest counties in Ireland.
HOUSE PRICES
However, expensive house prices impacted Cork’s overall ranking, coming in 22nd for housing affordability.
Waterford ranked first overall, as the best county to live in. Waterford also was one of the sunniest counties and has reasonably priced housing.
Waterford is in the top 10 of most scenic counties, with inhabitants also having good access to the facilities of Waterford city. These factors combined gave it top spot.
Coming in second in the survey was Wexford, which topped the rankings for sunshine, with an average of 1,400 hours per year, while Donegal came in third.
GALWAYS IN SIXTH
Following Cork in the survey was Clare, in fifth place, Galway, in sixth place, and Dublin, in seventh.
Liveability indices are regularly used to compare cities across the world.
The information used to compile the index is widely available to the public.
Counties are scored on parameters that influence a person’s decision to relocate to a particular area.
