One of the offences occured at Penneys.

Hair dryers, sports clothes, and Yankee candles were among the items stolen by a 29-year-old man, and now he has been jailed for three months.

Shane Justice, of Churchfield Green, Cork, had 61 previous convictions and was recently given a sentence by another court, his first time in custody.

The 29-year-old appeared by video link from prison at Cork District Court. Judge Mary Dorgan asked him:

“How are you getting on in prison?”

The man replied:

“Not too good.”

Solicitor Shane Collins-Daly said the defendant suffered from psychosis, exacerbated by abuse of alcohol.

The five offences for which he has just been sentenced date from September 2023 to December last year. The shoplifting offences occurred on September 11, 2023, at Penneys on Patrick’s St; on May 8, 2024, at Blackpool late-night pharmacy on Watercourse Rd — where two hair dryers costing a total of €190 were stolen; on June 17, 2024, at Dunnes Stores, Merchants Quay; on August 15, 2024, at Candlemania, Merchants Quay; and on December 15, 2024, at JD Sports, Blackpool.
