One of the offences occured at Penneys.

Hair dryers, sports clothes, and Yankee candles were among the items stolen by a 29-year-old man, and now he has been jailed for three months.

Shane Justice, of Churchfield Green, Cork, had 61 previous convictions and was recently given a sentence by another court, his first time in custody.

The 29-year-old appeared by video link from prison at Cork District Court. Judge Mary Dorgan asked him:

“How are you getting on in prison?”

The man replied:

“Not too good.”

Solicitor Shane Collins-Daly said the defendant suffered from psychosis, exacerbated by abuse of alcohol.

The shoplifting offences occurred on September 11, 2023, at Penneys on Patrick’s St; on May 8, 2024, at Blackpool late-night pharmacy on Watercourse Rd — where two hair dryers costing a total of €190 were stolen; on June 17, 2024, at Dunnes Stores, Merchants Quay; on August 15, 2024, at Candlemania, Merchants Quay; and on December 15, 2024, at JD Sports, Blackpool.
