A drunken man stripped off his clothes after 9pm on Cornmarket Street in Cork and today he was convicted and fined for being so drunk that he was a danger to himself or others.

33-year-old Stephen O’Sullivan of 96 Togher Road, Togher, Cork, was not present in Cork District Court where the case was dealt with in his absence.

Garda Cian Hennessy said the incident occurred after 9pm on March 25 2025.

“Gardaí were flagged down by security staff in relation to an intoxicated male after removing his clothing.

“We spoke to Stephen O’Sullivan who was very intoxicated. He was arrested under the Public Order Act for his own safety and conveyed to Bridewell garda station.

“His condition deteriorated and he was taken by ambulance to Mercy University Hospital,” Garda Hennessy said.

Judge Mary Dorgan said that on a charge of being so intoxicated that he was a danger to himself or others, the only penalty available is a fine.

The judge fined him €350.

Sergeant Dineen said the accused man had 30 previous convictions for the same offence. He had a total of 93 convictions.
