A 35-year-old woman was remanded in custody until the end of October for sentencing on a charge of heroin dealing which dates back more than two years.
Sinead Hogan, who was living at Dominic Court, off Shandon St, Cork, at the time of the crime, signed a plea of guilty to a charge of having diamorphine (heroin) for sale or supply at her home on April 12.
On the application of Sergeant John Dineen, Judge William Aylmer remanded the accused in custody from Cork District Court to the next sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court commencing on October 28.
Free legal aid was extended for a barrister to represent the accused at the circuit court.
The case related to over €2,000 worth of heroin at the defendant’s home on that occasion.
Other similar cases involving smaller quantities of drugs were finalised at Cork District Court.
Sgt Dineen said that on August 24, 2023, the house was searched and nine wraps of diamorphine were located in an upstairs bedroom: “Sinead Hogan was present for the search and took ownership of the heroin. She admitted giving them to friends for money.”
The same defendant pleaded guilty to having cocaine for sale or supply after she was observed by gardaí in a transaction at Shandon St on October 13, 2023, where she handed the drug to another person. The value of the cocaine on that occasion was €50.
Defence solicitor Frank Buttimer asked for her plea of guilty to be taken into consideration and the fact that she had been remanded in custody since July 7.
Judge Aylmer said in respect of the possession of heroin and cocaine for supply cases before Cork District Court: “I am imposing a one-week prison sentence backdated to when you went into custody.”
She was remanded in custody otherwise on the offence of dealing over €2,000 worth of heroin, for which she will be sentenced in October.
