A first-half Dylan McGlade hat-trick helped Cobh Ramblers record their first home win of the season at the expense of Treaty United at St. Colman’s Park on Easter Monday.

Kai O’Neill was also on target as Fran Rockett’s side recorded back-to-back league victories for the first time this year, a sequence that moves the club up to sixth in the table.

This followed a 2-0 win over Kerry FC at Mounthawk Park on Good Friday, and there was just one change to the team that started in Tralee. Rhys Brennan replaced Brian Lenihan in a 4-2-3-1 formation that was based around finding space for McGlade to run into on the left wing.

Rhys Gourdie was the key to everything as the midfielder never stopped running as Cobh started fast and forced Treaty to take a step back.

Once the visitors stepped out, Brennan was able to play a defence-splitting pass that McGlade collected and slotted in at the Liam McMahon Stand in the 11th minute.

Gourdie picked out the winger for the second in the 20th minute, and a blistering strike inside the area made it 2-0 to Cobh.

Rhys Kelly Noonan had a chance to get a third during the home side’s next attack after twisting into space on the right, only his cross was easily picked up by Jack Brady.

The Shannonsiders came to life in the final few minutes before the break, as players like Cian Curtis began making runs into the area, and they struggled to get passed a defence marshalled by Breandán Frahill.

Ramblers had one more attack in them, from a Brennan-led high press, and this ended with Ben Lynch dragging down the Bohemians loanee. A penalty was awarded and converted by McGlade, to give Cobh a deserved 3-0 lead at half-time.

Tommy Barrett and the Treaty United management team reacted to the deficit by making three changes at the break, with Steven Healy, Jason Folarin Oyenuga, and Raphael Ohin coming on for Colin Conroy, Ben Lynch, and Nikodem Kozlowski.

The Ramblers also tinkered by replacing Kelly Noonan with O’Neill, with the striker making his first appearance with the senior team since the loss to UCD at the end of March at Belfield.

The teenager marked his introduction by squeezing the ball in at the near post, for his second goal of the season in the 58th minute.

Treaty controlled possession for the rest of the game, their issue was creating something that really tested the Cobh defence.

It finished as a comfortable victory for all involved, with the club now focusing on Friday’s trip to Finn Harps.
