Two dead and children injured following collision in Mallow; One dead following separate N25 crash

Two people have died and two children have been injured following a two vehicle crash at Navigation Road in Mallow, Co Cork this afternoon.
Emergency services attended the scene of the incident which occurred at about 3.45pm on the N72 Killarney to Mallow Road.
The injured children are aged eight and five. They are being treated at Cork University Hospital.
The emergency services were at the crash site within minutes. A number of passing motorists also stopped to offer help at the scene.
Traffic diversions have been put in place and motorists in the area are asked to follow all directions given by the gardaí. It is understood that the two deceased are from separate cars.
The road will remain closed for some time as Garda collision scene investigators examine the section of roadway involved to try to determine the exact cause of the two car crash.
The Millstreet-based air ambulance was on standby to support emergency services involved in treating persons injured in the incident.
Speaking to The Echo, Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O'Shea said: "This is a terrible tragedy. The N72 is the main road between Mallow and Killarney with a lot of traffic on it always.
"My thoughts are with all those affected by this horrible tragic road traffic accident this evening."

, Mallow County Councillor, Tony O'Shea of Fine Gael said: "My condolences are with the families of the deceased and I hope the injured make a full recovery. The whole area is numb and on Mother’s Day for these families it’s horrific."
Fianna Fáil councillor Pat Hayes added: “My thoughts and prayers are with the deceased and the families of the people who were involved in the accident.
"Hopefully the people that are injured will make a full recovery."
Separately, gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal three-vehicle road traffic collision, that occurred on the N25, close to the Cork border at Moonameen, Co. Waterford, this afternoon.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the collision, involving cars, which occurred at approximately 2.10pm.
A passenger of one of the cars, a woman aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford where a postmortem examination will take place in due course.
The driver and passenger of the second car, a man and woman aged in their 50s, were taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of serious injuries, believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.
The female driver of the third car, aged in her 60s, was taken by air ambulance to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.
The road is currently closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local diversions in place.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 1.20pm and 2.20pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
