The Irish Coast Guard tasked their Rescue 117 helicopter to assist with the incident, but was later stood down.
A man has sustained a “serious” head injury following a fall North of Roches Point this evening.
The incident, which was reported to the Irish Coast Guard at approximately 6.30pm, occurred at White Bay Beach in Glanagow.
A spokesperson for the Irish Coast Guard told that the casualty, who had been walking on the nearby cliff walk, fell approximately 10 to 30 feet, and sustained a head injury causing “serious bleeding”.
Following a request for assistance from the National Ambulance Service, the Valentia Coast Guard station tasked their Rescue 117 helicopter from Waterford.
A ground team from the nearby Guileen Coast Guard also attended the scene of the incident.
Upon arrival at the scene, the team from the National Ambulance Service assessed the man, and later cleared him for road transfer via ambulance at approximately 6.50pm.
“Once the [National Ambulance Service] got on scene and assessed him, they said that he was okay to go by road and that it wasn’t necessary for him to go by helicopter,” the spokesperson said.
As the casualty was transported by ambulance to seek further medical treatment, the Rescue 117 helicopter was then stood down.
