The 2006 De La Salle College Macroom team and coaches that won the Corn Uí Mhuirí.

Two decades after etching their names into school folklore, the De La Salle College Macroom team that captured the 2006 Corn Uí Mhuirí title reunited recently for a celebration.

The gathering, held at the Castle Hotel in the heart of Macroom, brought together players, coaches, and supporters who had shared in one of the school’s greatest sporting achievements as they lifted the Corn Uí Mhuirí title for the first time.

They defeated St Flannan’s College of Ennis in the final on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-4. Since then, only one Cork school has won the famous competition and that was Coláiste Chríost Rí in 2011.

The 2006 victory remains a landmark moment for De La Salle College. Competing against the traditional powerhouses of Munster schools football, the Macroom side produced a remarkable campaign defined by resilience, tactical discipline, and a collective spirit.

Their triumph in the final, a hard-fought win that showcased both grit and flair as they inspired a new generation of young footballers in Muskerry. Con Dunne came off the bench to bag a crucial goal for De La Salle College.

Eight clubs from the Mid-Cork division were represented. There were emotional scenes after the final when the trophy was presented to captain Paul Healy.

Several members of the panel have since gone on to make their mark at club and inter-county level, while others have contributed to Gaelic games through coaching, administration, and community involvement.
