Met Éireann has issued a weather advisory for Ireland, with the newly named Storm Éowyn expected to bring strong winds across Cork.

The national forecaster issued the advisory yesterday afternoon, which said that a deepening low-pressure system will track close to Ireland on Thursday night and into Friday.

The UK Met Office named the storm this morning, following the announcement of the weather advisory, which came into place shortly after 7am.

The advisory will end at midnight on Friday, with very strong winds expected across the country, bringing the potential for damaging wind gusts and disruption to travel.

High seas and spells of heavy rain are also expected during this time.

Forecasters at Met Éireann have said they are continuously monitoring the evolving situation, and that further weather warnings will be issued as confidence in the forecast track and intensity of the low-pressure system improves.
