The mild weather over first half of November is set to make way for a cold snap with a significant drop in temperatures as the week progresses, according to Met Éireann.
The national forecaster issued an advisory on Friday of last week that the weather would become significantly colder across Ireland this week.
Met Éireann warned people to expect “a spell of cold and wintry weather” with “hazardous ground conditions due to frost and ice with cold day and night-time temperatures,” advising them to “expect poor visibility in any wintry showers.”
Rain is forecast for much of today in Cork city, with temperatures ranging from 9 to 13 degrees.
While some showers are forecast for Tuesday morning, the afternoon is set to be dry but cold, with early morning 10 degree temperatures falling to six degrees by 11am and two degrees by 8pm.
Cold but dry weather is set to continue through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – with the temperatures expected to drop below zero to minus one on Wednesday morning.
Thursday is set to be cloudy, dry and the coldest day so far, with temperatures to range from one degrees to a high of just four degrees.
While it will be a cold start to Friday, rain and warmer temperatures are forecast for late Friday night and all day Saturday.
