Construction has been completed on accessibility works at Little Island Station in a move that Iarnród Éireann CEO, Jim Meade, said will provide ease of access for generations to come.

The works, carried out by Triur Construction on behalf of Iarnród Éireann, included the provision of a new footbridge over the railway, which features two 13 person lifts.

The upgrade also provided two new access ramps on the north side from the car park level to the platform and on the south side a remodelled access pathway from the platform to the access road has been put in place.

Mr Meade said that the opening of the bridge at Little Island "demonstrates our commitment to making the railway more accessible to all."

He added: "This new infrastructure will provide ease of access for generations to come for commuters from Little Island”.

The company said that an integral element of Iarnrod Éireann’s ongoing investment programme is to continuously improve accessibility of its stations and services.

To this end, it said that planning, design and construction is ongoing for works at 11 stations.

Separately, accessibility works at Banteer Station are due to be completed this year.
