People are being advised that there will be increased Irish Coast Guard activity in parts of Cork today.

Crosshaven Coast Guard said to expect increased activity around the Crosshaven, Carrigaline and Currabinny areas as it hosts a search skills course for new members from its flanking stations.

In a post on Facebook, it urged people to remember however that the Coast Guard is still on call.

"If you see someone in difficulty or think they maybe in difficulty immediately dial 112/999 and ask for the Irish Coast Guard. It could save a life," Crosshaven Coast Guard said.

Meanwhile, Crosshaven Coast Guard is inviting members of the public to come behind the scenes, visit the team, see its station and meet members of some other state emergency services as well as RNLI Crosshaven Lifeboat Station crew at Crosshaven Coast Guard station tomorrow.

It is hosting a public open day and active volunteer recruitment drive from 1pm to 5pm.

"If you are interested in joining the team and volunteering your services you can make and expression of interest on the day," Crosshaven Coast Guard said.
