Plans in the pipeline for new access point to Tramore Valley Park

The design team for the Kinsale Road to Tramore Valley Park Project will be appointed this year.

PLANS for a new access point to Tramore Valley Park are in the pipeline which, if realised, would see “another piece of the puzzle in making up the full picture of access” to the popular amenity.

Independent councillor Mick Finn made the comment after receiving an update from the council executive.

The former lord mayor who, along with his fellow ward councillors, supported the access points at Half Moon Lane and the link across the N40 to Grange/Frankfield, had asked the council’s infrastructure directorate to “complete the puzzle” and develop access points on the western side of the park.

Mr Finn had asked that an update be given on plans to complete the access points into Tramore Valley Park by creating a new route via the Togher/Curragh Road/Ballyphehane side to ensure maximum accessibility to what he described as a “fantastic amenity”.

The South Central ward councillor was informed that the design team for the Kinsale Road to Tramore Valley Park Project will be appointed this year and that it will be tasked with progressing the preliminary design and surveys, with a statutory planning application and detailed design anticipated in 2025, subject to funding approvals.

“The evolution of Tramore Valley Park from the city’s dump to a sprawling piece of multi-use recreational infrastructure has been great to witness and we always knew the various elements of it would take time to activate,” said Mr Finn.

“Following the installation of the Vernon Mount Bridge linking the park to Frankfield and Grange… the focus has now shifted to the Togher/Turner’s Cross side and ensuring linkages to the new greenway that is underway.

“This will mean that access to Tramore Valley Park will be available on all sides of the city and will make it easier for more people to enjoy it.”
