The Cork City Northwest Quarter Regeneration (CNWQR) is a huge multi-annual, phased regeneration project which began in the Knocknaheeny and Hollyhill area more than a decade ago. 

The proposed park will be located within the lands zoned as ‘public open space’ in the Cork City Development Plan and consists of 116 hectares (287 acres) 2.25km from Cork City centre, north of Kilmore Heights and south of Lower Killeens Road.

A notice has been hung on the door by the council, explaining that it would like to speak with the owner to “discuss the removal of dereliction”, adding that the council “would prefer to work with the property owner to bring this derelict property back into use”.

An ESB spokesperson told The Echo: “Some public lighting faults in Cork city may require the attendance of ESB Networks crews to resolve. However, the broader maintenance and repair of public lighting remains the responsibility of the local authority and appointed contractors."

The Labour Party in Cork city will be pushing this year to expand the budget for multi-use games areas to include tennis courts.

A spokesperson for Uisce Éireann told Mr O’Flynn that when reported, operational issues such as leaking hydrants are actioned by water services crews on a priority basis.

Recently, The Echo revealed that 480 complaints related to footpaths were made to Cork City Council from the period May 1, 2024, to June 1, 2025, and a total of 2,907 since 2019. Through a Freedom of Information request Amy Campbell reveals some of the stories behind these complaints.

There have been 1,211 fines for parking or stopping in a disabled parking bay in Cork since 2023 — 544 in 2023, 473 in 2024, and 194 in 2025 so far, according to data provided by justice minister Jim O’Callaghan and gardaí.

Main works on the Lehenaghmore Road Improvement Scheme are due to begin toward the end of August, Cork City Council has said, with Glas Civil Engineering Ltd appointed as the main contractor.
