Sinn Féin has announced Mandy O’Leary-Hegarty as their candidate in the Cork City North East ward in the upcoming local elections.

Ms O’Leary-Hegarty has worked as a Sinn Féin local area representative for the last six years.

Her selection adds her to the party’s growing local election offering which will see candidates run in every ward in Cork city.

Speaking about the announcement, Ms O’Leary-Hegarty said: “As a local area representative for the North East ward over the last number of years, I have seen first-hand the issues that have been allowed to grow in the area due to sustained underinvestment.

“From housing maintenance to road repairs, the North East ward needs a strong Sinn Féin voice in City Hall to ensure Cork City Council acts on these issues and delivers for the community.”

She described Cork City North East as “potentially one of the most diverse wards in Cork city” and said she is determined to be a voice for everyone in the ward.

“From Glanmire to Mayfield, people need someone to stand up for them. I am determined to be that person,” she said.

“Sinn Féin believes in doing things differently – we believe in community-led, grassroots activism and this will be at the core of my work in Cork City Council.

“I believe that change is possible but that change needs a strong Council team supported by a change in government. That is the only way we can tackle the crisis in housing.”
