Carrigaline hit 1-21 to edge out Bishopstown in minor football thriller

Inspired by Cork minor star Eoghan Ahern and Ben Corkery Delaney, Carrigaline edged out Bishopstown in a thrilling Cork ETB Premier 1 MFC clash at Bishopstown on Wednesday.
In a game that went right to the wire, a late Bishopstown goal from Alex Collins that brought his tally to 3-6 saw the hosts fall just short after a competitive hour of free-flowing football.
Carrigaline, who beat Ballincollig in their opener, were quickest from the blocks with a super Cillian Murphy two-pointer. Then Ben Corkery Delaney nailed a two-pointer from a free.
The Town, who lost to Nemo the last day, were under serious pressure with careless turnovers. A Corkery-Delaney white flag pushed the gap to five points in the seventh minute.

Carrigaline were brave outside the arc and added a third two-pointer with another stunning Murphy long-ranger.
Credit to Bishopstown, they responded in style and in the space of three minutes, came from seven points down to level the game.
A Conal McBride point was followed by full-forward Callan Clarke finished a good attack when blasting the ball to the back of the net. A minute later, Alex Collins punished poor Carrigaline defending with a classy goal.
Carrigaline went from being the dominant force to a team badly in need of inspiration and consecutive Bishopstown points from Andy Cuthbert and Collins gave them a 2-3 to 0-7 lead in the 20th minute.
Carrigaline’s 12-minute drought ended when Corkery-Delaney slotted over from a placed ball. That score settled the visitors and Eoghan Ahern levelled with a neat score as we approached the break.
Bishopstown were now on the back foot and a Luke Jordan point edged them ahead.
Carrigaline went in at half-time commanding a 0-10 to 2-3 lead after a highly entertaining 30 minutes.
On the restart, a Murphy point edged Carrigaline further ahead, but they were stunned into submission in the 33rd minute with a second Clarke goal that was followed by a Collins' two-pointer.
The visitors were now trailing by three points but responded with four unanswered points to edge ahead by the minimum midway through the quarter.
A goal three minutes later from Ahern and suddenly it was a five-point game.
Despite a courageous finish that included a brace of Collins goals, Carrigaline held firm to secure the points.
They face Nemo in their last group game, where a victory will see them seal top spot. Bishopstown will need to beat Ballincollig and hope Carrigaline win to force a three-way tie for the second semi-final place.
