The Taoiseach has had an “open and constructive discussion” with the families of those who died in the Creeslough explosion.

Four men, three women and three children, aged between five and 59, died in the explosion at a building complex in the Co Donegal village on October 7th, 2022.

Some of the families have been critical of the Government, and pressed Oireachtas Members during an address in June for a public inquiry to be held into the disaster.

Gardaí have been leading what has been described as a “tripartite investigation” along with the Health and Safety Authority and the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities.

In June, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said he would meet with the families of those killed and injured in the explosion.

That meeting happened on Wednesday.

Afterwards, a spokesperson for the Taoiseach said he listened to their testimonies.

He is understood to have emphasised the importance of allowing the current investigation, which is underway, to complete.

“The Taoiseach had an open and constructive discussion with the families of those who lost their lives in the Creeslough explosion in 2022,” the spokesperson said.

“He listened to the personal testimonies of the families and articulated his deepest sympathies for their loss and the trauma that they have suffered.

“He understands their need for justice and for answers and reiterated the importance of allowing the investigation that is currently underway to conclude.

“The Taoiseach also confirmed that the Health and Safety Authority report into the incident is expected to be finalised shortly.”
