THE future is bright for Cork’s live music scene following confirmation that Live at the Marquee is set to return to Leeside next summer.

Speaking to The Echo from Nashville, Peter Aiken of Aiken Promotions, the company behind the festival, confirmed a stellar line-up of artists will once again be gracing the stage of the Cork venue next summer.

“We will be announcing the initial series of concerts during the first week of November,” said Mr Aiken.

The series, which has been running since 2005, has brought some of the world’s leading artists to Cork, including Elton John, Neil Young, Lady Gaga, Roger Waters, The Who, Elbow, Olly Murs, and the Pet Shop Boys, to namecheck just a few.

While Mr Aiken said the festival will be returning to Cork next summer, he would not be drawn on which acts might be playing the hugely popular event.

The confirmation of the return of the event comes as Sting yesterday announced a Cork date next summer, when he will be joined by special guests Blondie, fronted by Debbie Harry.

The Cherrytree Music Company has confirmed that the 17-time Grammy award-winning artist will be bringing his world-spanning ‘My Songs’ concert tour, which has captivated international audiences, to Cork.

The former frontman, songwriter, and bassist for new wave band The Police will play the 8,000-capacity venue Musgrave Park on Tuesday, June 18.

Sting’s My Songs concert is an exuberant and dynamic show featuring his most beloved hits, spanning his illustrious career both as a member of The Police and as a solo artist.

Tickets for the gig, from €69.90 including booking fee, will go on sale at 9am on Friday, November 3, from www.ticketmaster.ie.

Members of Sting’s fan club will have the opportunity to access exclusive pre-sale tickets

prior to the general public by visiting www.sting.com.

Take That also recently announced that they would be playing in Cork this summer.

The This Life Under The Stars tour will see the trio — Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald — play 19 outdoor dates in eight countries across Europe next summer.

The group is kicking off the European leg of its tour in Musgrave Park on June 20.

The band will also perform in Dublin and Belfast before heading to Germany, Denmark, Hungary, Switzerland, Italy, and Spain, bringing the tour to a close in Portugal.

Among the acts playing in Musgrave Park in June is Cork’s own Cian Ducrot, who takes to the stage on June 28 and Becky Hill on June 14.
