THIS couple got married on their 10th anniversary together, having met in their local supermarket, where they both worked at the time.
Shane Ryan and Kate O’Shea now both work in education. Shane is a secondary school teacher, while Kate is an SNA.
Kate is from Cathedral Road and Shane is originally from Fairhill, but grew up in Glanmire. The couple now live on the Middle Glanmire Road in their new home.
Love blossomed
Shane recalled how they first met: “We met in SuperValu, Knocknaheeney, where we both worked. Clearly its a shop you can find anything in!”
They became close friends before becoming a couple the week before Valentine’s Day in 2014.
Shane said: “Trips abroad and supporting each other in our education and careers meant I eventually couldn’t imagine life without Kate, so I proposed on July 15, 2020. It was the best decision I ever made.
“We were lucky enough to get our home on the Middle Glanmire Road last October and all that was left was to plan our wedding.”
The day itself was a special one.
“It was a great day surrounded by family and friends, and I can honestly say I never felt so lucky to have been able to marry my best friend,” the groom said.
Celebrating with the ones they love
They were married on February 9, 2024, in the North Cathedral, by Canon John O’Donovan, followed by their wedding reception in the Vienna Woods Hotel, Glanmire.
Key family members in attendance included both sets of parents and both sets of Shane’s grandparents.
The bridal party included Sophie Manning (sister) Leanne Healy (friend).
The groom’s party included Ciarán Ryan (brother), Aaron Singleton (cousin) and friends, Shaun Owens, Joe O’Regan and Shane O’Sullivan.
They wed on a special milestone.
Shane said: “We got married on our 10 year anniversary.”
The cake was made by Kate’s mam Abina.
Their first song was Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran.
Shane recalled: “We got our after-church photos in Le Chateau bar on Patrick Street which was so much fun.”
As to the most memorable thing about the day? Shane said - the best man’s speech, which was so funny and heartfelt.
