A WEDDING day downpour brought good luck to this couple.

Aisling Barry (nee Doyle), of Douglas, who works in The Autism Assessment Centre, and Noelle Barry, of Fairhill, who works at Apple, met in the summer of 2019.

Aisling recalls how she had started to coach a football team in the Glen Resource Centre and Noelle joined the team.

“We instantly hit it off and became friends; at first. Eventually, at the end of 2019, we bit the bullet after a bit of a cat and mouse chase and we’ve been together ever since,” said Aisling.

They got engaged in June, 2021, during what was meant to be a special trip to Tramore. They had a camper van and had been doing a lot of travelling around Ireland. Aisling explained: “The weather was really nice so I planned on taking a walk on the beach and proposing, and I had rung a restaurant in Tramore to book a table, letting them know we were going to be coming in and newly engaged, so I wanted to organise a bottle of champagne, etc.

“We went to set off that morning and the camper wouldn’t start.”

“It was a lovely day in August and our guests were delighted to see an ice cream truck arriving with free ice cream, slushies, etc.” said Aisling, pictured left.

Despite efforts to fix it, they had to make a change of plans, and booked into a hotel in Killarney instead.

I simply presented her the ring in the hotel room, while we looked out the window at the wonderful views, and she initially thought I was pulling some sort of prank.

The happy couple.

They were married on August 25 in The Clayton Hotel Silversprings, with family and friends.

“We wanted to make the wedding as budget- friendly as possible as we have been undergoing our own personal fertility journey since 2021, experiencing loss and disappointment continuously.

Our wedding was something that we could look forward to whilst also planning to continue the fertility journey after the wedding.

Aisling’s sister and Noelle’s sister were bridesmaids. The youngest nephew from Aisling’s side and the youngest niece from Noelle’s side were flower girl and page boy. Their foster son, Shane, aged 18, was best man.

Recalling the event, Aisling said: “One of the highlights of the day was when Noelle produced a keyboard and microphone and sang a song she had written, instead of saying her vows. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”

Noelle and Aisling had photographs taken in Fota Gardens, on what was a beautiful August summer’s day - but there was just one small downpour.

The days was sunny, except for one shower. Aisling said: “They say that rain on your wedding day signifies fertility, and during our ceremony the heavens opened for about 10 minutes, and immediately returned to sunshine.

It must have brought some good luck as I am now four-and-a-half months pregnant.
