A COUPLE who were due to marry on Sunset Beach in Benalmadena in Spain back in 2020 - but saw it cancelled due to Covid - finally had their special day.

Sarah Porter, of Mahon, and Gavin Cronin, from Ballyphehane, live in Maryborough in Douglas.

They knew of each other growing up through mutual friends.

The couple got engaged in their first home in Cloyne in 2018. The bride recalled: “It was such a happy day.”

Sarah said: “We were originally supposed to get married in Sunset Beach in Benalmadena in July, 2020.

Everything was ready to go, everyone had their flights booked, but, like so many others, we had to cancel due to Covid, so we decided to get married at home, not to put everyone through that again.

“A lot happened in the three years until we got married, including a new home and two new additions, Dillon and Tommy, to join their older brothers, my son Kian and Gavin’s son Mason.”

The couple were married in the Rochestown Park Hotel, followed by a reception.

“It was the most amazing day, I couldn’t fault the hotel. Shiby, our wedding coordinator, was brilliant and made sure everything went off brilliantly.”

The bride bought her dress back in 2019 in the Moderne, where it stayed for four years, until the wedding was rearranged - but it was stunning on the day, timeless.

Niamh O’Leary was their make up artist, while Edel O’Dee did the hair.

Sarah said: “My mam bought my jewellery for me in the Kilkenny shop.”

Among the special guests were Gavin’s sister Emma and her husband Adrian, who made the long flight home from New Zealand with their small children, Ronan and Clodagh. The bride said this was very special for family members, who got to meet the smallies for the first time.

It made the wedding and wedding build-up that extra bit special.

The cake was by Trace of Cakes.

BY HER SIDE: Sarah’s Maid of Honour was Alisha Punch and the bridesmaids were Amie, Alex, Kelly and Shauna. Flower girls were Olivia and Clodagh.

The King of Swing sang at the drinks reception. The band was Route 66 and they did not disappoint.

“They had the dance floor full from start to finish, we felt like we were at a concert, we had no voices left from singing, and our legs were sore the next day from dancing.”

BY HIS SIDE: Gavin’s Best Man was Ryan O’Mahony and the other groomsmen were Kian, Owen, Decky, Sean and Paul. Page boys were Mason, Ronan, Dillon and Tommy.

Their first dance was to K-Ci and JoJo’s All My Life.

“I was so nervous about it, but it was my favourite part of the wedding, we were ourselves and danced like no-one was there,” the bride said.
