A PORTUGUESE clifftop, overlooking the ocean and the beach, was the perfect venue for the wedding of Lisa Histon and Daniel Lynch.
Romance first blossomed when the couple, from Cobh, began chatting in the local chipper, Mimmo’s, after a night in ‘The Com’.
They were engaged during the pandemic, after the second lockdown. Lisa explained how her family threw her a surprise party in the garden of their home, to mark her 30th birthday. Daniel surprised her further by going down on one knee.
“It was very intimate, and sharing it with my family made it even more special,” she said.
They were married in a civil ceremony at Pestana Viking. Lisa said: “The weather was stunning and we had a great view of the Irish rugby team further down as Conor Murray and Joanne Cooper got married at the same time across the way from us.
The Irish were really taking over Portugal that day.
The bride got her dress in London, by a designer, Made with Love, and the overskirt was by fashion designer Olivia De Barra, while Danny’s and the groomsmen’s suits were from Simply Suits.
The couple have two kids, Aidan and Charlie, who played an important role in the day.
Lisa said: “Danny is not the biological father of Aidan, but as we like to call him, a second dad, and he has been in his life since he was one year of age.”
Lisa said highlights of the day included: “Firstly, my son Aidan (8) read out a beautiful reading named A Second Dad. To summarise, he thanked Danny for always being there, through the good times and bad, the tears they shared and overcoming things together. They have a beautiful bond that they will share forever.
A second moment was my mom’s friend, Yvonne Cahill, who sang a beautiful rendition of This I Promise you, by Ronan Keating, as we did a family sand blending ritual, which blended our family as one.
Lisa said they were grateful that family and friends were able to travel.
“They really made the effort and we will be entirely grateful for this. Especially to my Aunt Kathy who came from Australia, with her husband Brian and daughter Helen.”
Another person in their thoughts on the day was Danny’s mum, who he lost to cancer at a very young age.
The wedding reception was held in a rustic country house named Monte Do Serrinho. They had their dinner under the trees with fairy lights above. “It was like something out of a fairytale,” said Lisa.
