Historic estate in Co Meath on 720-acres on the market for €14.5 million

A historic country estate in Co Meath stretching over 720 acres and featuring an Italianate mansion dating from the 19th century has gone on the market with a guide price of €14.5 million.

Located 41km from Dublin city centre and 46km from Dublin Airport, Rahinstown Estate is being sold by Savills Ireland by private treaty and features a large country house, extensive equestrian facilities, productive farmland and woodland within a single ring-fenced holding.

At the heart of the estate stands Rahinstown House, an Italianate mansion dating from the 19th century on the site of the original Georgian residence.

The house extends over three storeys above a basement and, according to Savills, retains original architectural features, including elegant reception rooms, period plasterwork, marble fireplaces and a grand cantilevered staircase.

The estate also includes two additional residential properties, a traditional stable courtyard with 24 loose boxes, extensive equestrian infrastructure, traditional farm buildings and a modern stable complex. The land comprises approximately 480 acres of productive arable and pasture land, 181 acres of woodland and a further 59 acres of scrub and amenity land.

Rahinstown was originally developed by the Bomford family in the early 18th century before passing to the Fowler family, who commissioned the present mansion in the 1870s following the destruction of the original house by fire.

Savills say the estate became renowned as one of the great sporting estates of Co Meath and famously welcomed Empress Elisabeth of Austria during her hunting visits to Ireland.
