Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow high temperature alert for the whole country, with temperatures of 27C and above forecast for the coming days.

The warning comes into place at 12pm on Tuesday and will end at 9am on Friday.

High temperatures are forecast for the week ahead, with a peak of 33 degrees expected for Thursday.

Temperatures are forecast to rise day-by-day this week, with Wednesday set to be the warmest night of the week.

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow weather said the heat will be felt right across the country.

O'Reilly told Newstalk: "Really away from the coast though, it's going to be warm right across the country and it's going to feel warm as well; because the dew point humidity is going to be high, the dew point is going to be unusually high which will make it feel a lot warmer because it's going to be hard for your body to keep itself cool.

"And we're also going to have some warm nights. Wednesday night, it might not drop below 18 or 19 degress in a few spots. It is going to be a few hot days ahead for sure."
