A man in his 40s has died in a crash in Co Cork.

The collision, involving a car and a motorcycle, occurred on the N73 near Mitchelstown, Co Cork at around 1.40pm on Sunday.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner has been notified, and his body has been removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 30s, was brought to Tipperary University Hospital, Clonmel, as a precaution.

No other injuries were reported.

The road was technically examined and has since reopened.

Earlier, a little boy was killed when he was struck by a car near Ballina, Co Mayo.

The child pedestrian was also pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which happened at 11.20am on the N59 at Eskeragh, Crossmolina.

Gardaí investigating both deaths are appealing for road users who may have camera footage from either scene to make it available.
