A woman in her 70s has died after she was struck by a car in Co Carlow on Friday evening.

The incident happened on the N80 in the townland of Rathcrogue at approximately 6.30pm.

A car collided with a female pedestrian on the N80. The female pedestrian, aged in her 70s was fatally injured as a result of the collision.

Her body has been removed from the scene and has been taken to the Mortuary in Waterford Regional Hospital where a post mortem will take place in due course.

The driver, a man in his 20s,  was uninjured.

The N80 in the townland of Rathcrogue, Carlow is currently closed and will remain closed overnight.

A technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will take place in the morning. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to make this footage available to Gardaí.
