Cork stages entertain with 'dinosaurs' and and Echo Boys too

Take It To The Limit celebrates The Eagles at the Opera House tonight, Thursday April 1.
TONIGHT at the Opera House, Take It To The Limit. Johnny Brady, Simon Casey, Nigel Connell and The Sheerin Family Band come together to pay homage to one of the greatest bands ever, The Eagles.
Just a few tickets left at time of going to press.
From tomorrow until Sunday, something special for younger theatre-goers with Jurassic Musical Adventure Live. Yes, direct from London’s West End, the world’s leading dinosaur show is returning to Cork after a sell-out success in 2023.
See life-sized, monstrous beasts up close, the world’s only mosasaur, the last flying pterodactyl, and more dinosaur species than any other show on earth... Strobe lighting, mild pyrotechnics and a bit of a scare factor too!
On Friday at 5pm, Saturday and Sunday at 11am and 3pm.
Next Wednesday brings something equally exciting - Elsewhere, an entirely new opera by Michael Gallen. This is the wholly strange but entirely true story of the radical ‘’Monaghan Asylum Soviet’ of 1919, and is presented by Straymaker and The Abbey Theatre in association with Miroirs Étendus and Once Off Productions.
Both shocking and moving, it’s like no other opera you’ve ever seen. 8pm start.
Call 021 427 0022 or www.corkoperahouse.ie for all bookings.

And a very worthwhile show tonight at Everyman, Jokes For Stroke, the charity fundraiser for Cork Stroke Support. Chris Kent, voted one of the top five Irish comedians by Hot Press magazine, will be joined by Kyla Cobbler, Ross Browne, Bernard Casey, Laura O’Mahony, Con O’Sullivan, Ciara Barnes and Mike Morgan.
A night full of laughter promised, and you should know all the comedians and the crew as well have waved their fees for the night. That means all proceeds will go directly to fund the important work of Cork Stroke Support.
Be there, and split your sides while doing your bit to help! 8pm start.
And a night out for the females tomorrow at Everyman, with Here Come The Girls, celebrating incredible artists like Cher, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Shania Twain, Annie Lennox, Gloria Estefan, Blondie, Katy Perry, Adele, Abba and Bananarama. Definitely dancing in the aisles for that one!
Also, don’t miss out on an exciting opportunity to see back stage earlier in the day on the Behind The Scenes Tour at noon. That’s free, but you do need to book - oh, and advise the box office of any mobility access requirements too.
The tour is part of the Lifelong Learning Festival 2024.
On Saturday, we have The Glam Rock Show, from the producers of The Magic Of Motown and Radio GaGa. Starring son of the Sweet legend - Brian Connolly Jnr, with a sensational cast and live band, it recreates the soundtrack of a generation. 7.30pm start, note.
Call 021 450 1673 or www.everymancork.com for all bookings.
The Montfort College of Performing Arts is taking to the stage at the Cork Arts Theatre tomorrow and Saturday night with Old Times by Molly Taylor. The story concerns twins Stefi and Zafer, who are about to turn 18, but are scared their past is about to catch up with them. Five years ago, both were involved in a crime that still hangs over their town, but only one of their gang was accused and convicted. Now released from prison, is he out for revenge?
Stirring stuff, directed by Sinéad Crowley. 7.30pm start.
Next week, for a decent run, The Echo Boys brings back the days of yore when there was a kid on every corner shouting his lungs out with a bundle under his arm, or else dodging the traffic while supplying the latest edition to home-going drivers.
By Val Dennehy and Marion Wyatt, this is one not to miss. It strikes to the very heart of old Cork. April 17 to 27 at 8pm with a Saturday matinee or two at 2.30pm thrown in as well. Book right now, it’s going to be a sell-out.
