Theatre Nights: Comedy, drama, and two sold-out Jackson tribute shows 

There is still time to catch the vivid recreation of a Hollywood superstar’s career in Judy – End Of The Rainbow at the Everyman until Saturday.

Garland’s extraordinary life comes to the stage in this acclaimed drama with music by Peter Quilter, featuring West End star Anna-Jane Casey, alongside Will O’Connell, Darragh Shannon and William Morgan. Moving and intensely real.

After that, Man In The Mirror, a tribute show to Michael Jackson, is sold out for both performances on Sunday, but they managed to secure another show for March 16, so get on to them quickly.

Kyla Cobbler’s comedy show on September 7 sold out too, as is Jarlath Regan on the 12th. Comedy, it seems, is in demand these days!

There just might be some seats left for the ELO Tribute Show at the Opera House tonight, but they are selling pretty fast. And Keane’s delightful yet poignant The Love Hungry Farmer, portrayed by Seamus O’Rourke tomorrow night, is likely to bring a packed house too.

At Cork Arts Theatre tonight and tomorrow, award-winning storyteller, musician, and modern-day seanchaí Aindrias de Staic has his celebrated live production, By The Light Of The Silvery Moon.

Joining him on stage are acclaimed musicians Brian Fleming (percussion) and Aisling Lyons (harp), whose richly textured live score transforms each story into an immersive experience.

Stop press! After a rollercoaster few years, phenomenal West Cork band The Kates have decided, regretfully but firmly, that the time is right for them to disband.

But before they do, they leave us with one final gift – their debut album, Between Takes. Set for release on October 16, this may be their final testament. Monday film night here brings something rather stronger in Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. Based on the Joseph Conrad novella to the Vietnam War, it follows Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) on a mission into the jungle to assassinate the rogue Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando). Not for the faint-hearted.

Something special is coming up on Saturday, September 12, when New York-based singer-songwriter/guitarist Paul Spring returns, alongside gifted local bouzouki and fiddle player Macdara Ó Faoláin, for an intimate evening of American folk, Irish traditional music and adventurous contemporary songwriting.

A captivating evening is promised, with beautifully crafted songs.
