Shark show... and a comic with bite take to Cork stages

The Family Shark Show is at the Everyman on Sunday.
THE Cork Folk Festival is under way with a great mix of events on everywhere.
At the Everyman, Karan Casey presents The Women, We Will Rise tonight and on Saturday afternoon, with a post-show talk tonight with Anne Twomey.
Directed by Tom Creed, this new show progresses the female narrative in the folk tradition. It places women centre stage and shares through song the experiences of gallant females from Ireland’s past, whilst being a vision for the women of the future.
Joined by Niamh Dunne and Seán Óg Graham, with composition by Niall Vallely, Karan will perform songs from her highly acclaimed album, Nine Apples of Gold, as well as new material, in this uplifting and empowering show. Tonight at 8pm, and Saturday at 2.30pm.
A Ceili Mor at Douglas GAA tonight should get you in the mood, or perhaps a lively folk session at the Spailpin Fanach with Daoiri Farrell and Kevin Byrne. The Ceili All Stars are there tomorrow night. And dozens of other events too - workshops, Folk on the Quay, you name it. Check out the official website and try to choose! https://www.corkfolkfestival.com.
Tomorrow night at Everyman, Poetry Ireland and SoFFt Productions bring a live literary celebration of creativity with Ireland Is, featuring Colm Keegan, Erin Fornoff and Felispeaks. Internationally renowned poets and performers, such as Danez Smith and Hollie McNish, will share the stage with gifted Cork rapper and spoken word artist Olympio. 8pm start.
On Saturday night, some truly unforgettable music when Bookends bring their unforgettable show Simon & Garfunkel: Through the Years. Whoops, that one is already completely sold out. Not surprising!
On Sunday, especially for the littlest theatregoers, FairyTale StageShow presents The Family Shark Show. Venture into the deep blue sea and join Baby on the adventure of a lifetime with new friends like Olivia the Octopus and Tommy the Turtle. Everyone in attendance is invited to Baby’s birthday party on Treasure Island and can sing along with the characters! Fun for the whole family! Performances at 11am and 2pm.
Tonight at the Opera House, Tadhg Hickey in the arrestingly-titled Marxist Terrorist-Supporting Scumbag Tour. Join him on his very first stand-up tour and hear him ráiméis about family, fatherhood, colonialism and how to break up the United Kingdom through the medium of comedy. Discounts for groups of four or more. 8pm.
There are just a few tickets left for that great country rock band Smokie tomorrow (Friday), while tickets for Gina and the Champions on Saturday night, and that amazing trio, Frances Black, Sharon Shannon, and Mary Couglan on Sunday night, are going fast.
Projective on Monday night is already sold out, but you might be lucky for Perfectly George, with Rod Lamberti, on Tuesday, and The Illegal Eagles on Wednesday, if you don’t delay.
Then, on Thursday, October 4, the iconic Phil Coulter - that one is pretty well bound to be a sell-out as well. What a great mix of shows at the Opera House!
