Dr Harty Cup: Schools' strike means dispersed schedule

One side-effect of this week’s industrial action by public-sector workers is that the traditional TUS Dr Harty Cup fixture scheduling has been dispersed.
Generally, games in the competition take place on a Wednesday afternoon but the closure of schools meant that that was not an option and so a dispersed fixture-list was employed.
On Monday, St Colman’s College of Fermoy opened their campaign with victory over Castletroy College in Knocklong and on Thursday Kilmallock is the venue for Midleton CBS’s first outing as they take on the holders, St Joseph’s CBS of Nenagh, in Group 2.
Midleton will look to draw upon the fact that the bulk of their squad claimed Dean Ryan Cup glory two years ago.
In last year’s Harty, Midleton – the last Cork Harty champions, in 2019 – topped their group to reach the quarter-finals, where they lost to the eventual champions.
Nine of that team remain as acquaintance is renewed with Nenagh, including a raft of players who have represented Cork at minor level, including goalkeeper Tom C Walsh, midfielder Tom A Walsh, Sam Ring and Cormac Deane, who featured on the U20 squad in 2026.
Senan Carroll is another likely to feature heavily and he brings momentum from Midleton’s recent county minor victory.
On Friday, the other game in the group sees Gaelcholáiste Mhuire an Mhainistir Thuaidh go up against Ardscoil Rís in Castlelyons.
