It is a cloudy and wet start to Thursday morning for Cork and Munster, with outbreaks of heavy rain across the region.

Met Éireann has said it will remain wet throughout the morning, until sunny spells will start to develop in the late afternoon.

Highest temperatures of 13C to 16C are expected.

It will be a little breezy at first in southern and eastern parts of the province, with moderate to fresh and occasionally gusty south to southwest winds.

Tonight will then bring a mix of clear spells and showers, with the showers mostly affecting western counties.

It will be cooler than recent nights with lowest temperatures of 3C to 8C in mostly light to moderate southwest to west or variable breezes.

Traffic

Traffic is slowly starting to build across some of Cork's major city links, with growing congestion on the N40 and M28.

There has been reports of a collision on the N25 between Youghal and Killeagh, as well as a separate collision outside Mallow near the junction of Leemount Cross and the R579.

Motorists are advised to take care on approach.

National outlook

Met Éireann has said Friday will bring plenty of sunshine with some heavy, scattered showers.

The showers will mainly occur in the morning before dying away in the afternoon.

It will be cooler than recent days with highest temperatures of 11C to 14C.

Friday night will be mostly dry and clear for a time, with lowest temperatures of 1C and 5C.

The forecaster said it might reach freezing in some areas with a touch of frost, mist, and fog expected.

Saturday will see any mist and fog patches clear through morning, leaving a dry, bright day with lots of sunshine.

Met Éireann said it will be cloudier at times in the northwest, with highest temperatures of 11C to 14C in light variable or northeasterly breezes.

Saturday night will be dry and cold with some mist and fog developing.

Lowest temperatures of 1C to 5C are expected.

Mist and fog will gradually clear through Sunday morning, leaving a dry day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells.

Highest temperatures of 11C to 13C in light variable breezes are predicted.
