Eoghan McSweeney has stepped away from the Cork football panel after informing manager John Cleary of his decision in recent days, The Echo understands.
The Knocknagree clubman made his championship debut for the Rebels against Limerick in 2019.
McSweeney quickly established himself as an important figure within the squad and became a key player over a number of years.
The Duhallow man featured prominently during Cork's rise under Cleary, playing an influential role across league and championship campaigns.
However, opportunities became more limited in 2026, with McSweeney struggling for minutes amid increased competition for places.

He found game time difficult to come by during Cork's Allianz Division 2 Football League promotion-winning campaign and their run to the All-Ireland quarter-finals.
McSweeney's departure comes as Cork prepare for a return to Division 1 in 2027, the county's first season in the top flight since 2016.
While his exit leaves management with one less experienced option heading into the campaign, it also creates an opportunity for younger players to stake a claim for a place in the squad.
For McSweeney, attention will now switch fully to club duties with Knocknagree, where he remains a central figure for the Premier Senior side.
