Cork’s Christina Demond created history when she was crowned the BUI Women’s Irish Lightweight Champion when she defeated Australian based fighter Louise Creaven by unanimous decision in a Siam Warriors Event at the GCU Parochial Arena last Friday night.
Also on the stacked card, Aaron O’Donoghue put in another powerful performance to beat Argentinian Jose Maria Pombo in a Welterweight contest, Cathal Crowley comfortably beat Bulgarian Konstantin Alexsandrov in a Super Middleweight bout, and Kuba Pielesz got the better of Mexican Mario Ramon Portillo at Super Lightweight contest to remain unbeaten.
Desmond now has moved 6-0 and the amazing fact is that she only started her professional career this time last year when she stopped Polish Fighter Joanna Frasczal at the Dublin National Stadium.
The Cork southpaw Desmond started the fight on the front foot and was working behind her right jab and finished the round with a powerful left to the head of the girl originally from Galway.
Creaven was on the deck early in the second round, but it was deemed a slip by the referee David Irvine. Desmond finished the round by landing some good shots that certainly caught the judges round.
The third round was very competitive with both fighters having success in what was a very even round.

The fourth and fifth round both landed some big shots, however, Desmond was doing the better work and landed some big over hand left shots to closely win the rounds.
In fairness to Creaven, she was very brave and certainly came fight and gave Desmond some trouble.
But Desmond held the centre of the ring and still was doing the cleaner work and in round six the Cork woman used her reach to effectively to win the round.
Desmond was now starting to show all her class in the seventh and eight rounds and was able to catch Creaven on the way in with some big shots.
Desmond stared the ninth round by landing some telling shots and although Craven was very game it was Desmond who finished the round with some big left shots.
The final round both fighters traded big shots, but again Desmond showed all her composure to finish what was a great advertisement for women’s boxing.
Aaron O’Donoghue came into this fight with a 6-0 professional record and was supposed to fight France Luzoho, however, the Dublin native had to pull out late last week and Pombo was drafted in instead by promoter Martin Horgan.
Aaron started the fight very aggressive and had his opponent on the back foot for the opening two rounds by landing numerous combination’s to win the opening two rounds.
O’Donoghue did a great job by cutting off the ring and made things very uncomfortable for the Argentinian in the third round.
This fight certainly didn’t disappoint the large crowd in attendance as both fighters made it a real war, however, the Cork man done the cleaner work to win the next two rounds.
The final round both fighters traded heavy shots, but O’Donoghue put in another great performance to win on the scorecard’s 60 to 54.

Cathal Crowley was last in action last July in Gibraltar, where he stopped his Spanish opponent Fran Verdeguer in the fourth round to go 9-1.
Crowley looked very composed in the opening two rounds and had Alexsanrov bitting down on his gum shield with some punishing right shots to the head.
Crowley let his hand go early in the third round and rocked his opponent again with another good combination that hurt Alexsanrov and he was lucky to survive the round.
Cathal totally dominated the next two rounds and was able to catch his opponent with some telling heavy shots, but in fairness to the Bulgarian he was tough as nails.
The pattern of the fight did’t change in the final round with Crowley showing all his class for a unanimous 60-54 victory.
Kuba Pielesz’s last outing was in the Pavilion Building in Leopardstown Dublin where he had a points victory in his second pro fight against Polish Jakub Laskoweki to stay unbeaten.
Kuba boxed beautiful behind his left jab and hurt his Mexican opponent Portillo with a chopping right hand at every opportunity to easy win the opening two rounds.
The pace of the third and fourth rounds dropped, however, Pielesz was very comfortable and won both rounds.
Although Kuba didn't get the knockout he was craving, however, those six rounds was a great learning fight for him and will stand to him going forward in his career.
