Beara stars Conor Downing and Kieran O'Shea honoured for Munster and All‑Ireland wins

Adrigole GAA marked two significant occasions over the August Bank Holiday weekend, celebrating both the achievements of local players on the inter-county stage and the community spirit that continues to define the club’s annual festival.

A special presentation was made to Cork minor footballers Kieran O’Shea of Urhan and Conor Downing of Adrigole in recognition of their recent Munster and All-Ireland championship victories.

The event drew a warm crowd, proud to acknowledge two young players who have carried the Beara colours onto the national stage. The presentation was made by Seán O’Shea, the former Adrigole footballer who himself lined out with the Cork minors during their 1972 All-Ireland triumph.

The presentation formed part of a busy weekend in Adrigole, with the fifth annual Aidan Cremin Memorial 7-a-side tournament taking centre stage during the club’s festival.

The competition, now firmly established in the August Bank Holiday calendar, is held in memory of Aidan Cremin, originally from Beaufort in Kerry, who served as a Garda on the Beara peninsula for nearly 15 years until his sudden passing in January 2021.

Cremin was deeply involved in GAA coaching across Adrigole, Beara and Cork development squads, particularly at underage level, and the tournament continues to honour his commitment to nurturing young players and strengthening football in the region.

This year’s event brought together four Beara clubs — Adrigole, Urhan, Castletownbere and Bere Island — along with Muskerry outfit Canovee for the round-robin format.

The games were played in excellent spirit, with strong support from families, former players and visitors to the festival. As the group-stages unfolded, it was Adrigole and Urhan who emerged from the pack to book their place in the final, setting up a fitting local decider.

The final proved a tight, low-scoring affair, with both sides defending well. In the end, it was Urhan who edged the contest, their accuracy proving decisive in a game where every score mattered.

The victory was warmly received by their supporters, while Adrigole’s young side earned credit. 

Organisers extended their thanks to all teams who took part, acknowledging the effort made by players and mentors to support the memorial tournament each year.

The event continues to serve as both a tribute to Aidan Cremin’s legacy and a celebration of football across Beara, with plans already in motion for next year’s competition.
