The Cork football championships return this weekend, the action getting underway on Friday evening as an under-pressure St Finbarr’s face Douglas at Páirc Uí Rinn.

But with all of the Premier Senior clubs having only played one round, unsurprisingly the scoring charts remain dominated by Divisional representatives, and Avondhu men occupy the top three spots having played four games so far.

Mark Lenahan leads the way on 3-14, with the Buttevant forward having accrued all of his points from play – ensuring he leads both charts – while Ben Twomey sits second with 4-8 and Lenahan’s clubmate Conor Hanlon sits third with 2-12.

Of players to have played only one game, Duhallow’s Luke Murphy leads the way with 1-12, enough to place him fourth among the overall charts.

The Senior A chart is topped by Kevin Davis, the O’Donovan Rossa forward scoring 0-12 in their opening round defeat to Newmarket, while Carbery Rangers’ Paul Hodnett is second with 0-9. Darragh O’Sullivan, Hugh O’Connor and Matthew Bradley are all tied for third place after the first round of games.

In the from play table, there’s a three way tie for top spot between Kanturk’s Grantas Bucinskas, Newmarket’s O’Connor and Shane Ó Duinnin of Cill na Martra, one of three players in the top six for the Gaeltacht outfit.

The man who finished last year’s Premier Intermediate championship as the overall top-scorer leads the way again after one round, with Cork footballer Chris Óg Jones leads both tables, having scored 3-4 in their opening round win over Glanmire, 3-4 of which came from play.

Ben Twomey is second in both Premier Intermediate charts – as he is in the Premier Senior equivalent – while Ed Ó Mir is third from play and overall so far.
