Douglas Hall edge out Carrigaline after extra time in Murphy Cup final
Youth Soccer: The victorious Douglas Hall side with their manager Dave Butler on the left after winning the U18 Murphy Cup against Carrigaline United at Turner’s Cross.
Douglas Hall lifted the Daly Industrial Supplies U18 Murphy Cup after a gripping game at the Munster FA Turner's Cross Stadium recently.
It was scoreless at half-time with both sides delivering two different styles of play, Carrigaline were trying to work their way through on goal with some lovely one-touch football, while Douglas were eager to try and catch them on the break.
Douglas took the lead through Conall MacGhiolla in the 61st minute but Carrigaline levelled from the penalty spot in the 88th minute to bring the game to extra time.
They couldn’t be separated until Ryan Hourihane popped up with the winner in the 113th minute.

The first real chance fell to Carrigaline after six minutes. Luke Jordan picked up a loose ball on the right wing but his looping effort crashed off the top of the crossbar and away from danger.
The Hall had a great opportunity to break the deadlock in the 18th minute when Matthew Dowling was through but he got stopped in his tracks by Carrig keeper Cillian Beale-O’Shaughnessy and a free kick was awarded.
From the resulting free just outside the box, Darragh Morley saw his powerful effort thunder off the post.
The Hall had a a glorious chance a minute before the break when Conall Bhride-MacGhiolla’s shot was heading for the back of the net but Ben Phillips recovered to somehow clear the ball off the line.
The Hall started the second half on the front foot and when Mathew Ray swung in a dangerous corner in the 52nd minute, it took a brave save from Beale-O’Shaughnessy at the feet of Hourihane to keep the game scoreless.
They had another great opportunity three minutes later when Darragh Morley picked up a loose ball but a wonderful save from the Carrig keeper pushed his effort around the post.
Hall deservedly broke the deadlock in the 61st minute. Hourihane played a superb pass to Bhride-MacGhiolla and he kept his composure with a cool strike.
The goal sparked Carrigaline into life and they came close to levelling the game in the 72nd minute.

Jordan did well to skip past his defender and when his cross was met by Daniel McSorley, it took a fine save from Daniel Wiseman to deny him.
Carrigaline were given a lifeline in the 87th minute when Josh O’Callaghan was upended in the box.
McSorley took the responsibility and calmly slotted the penalty to level.
Douglas had a great chance to retake the lead in the 95th minute but the ball got stuck under the feet of James Barry when he was just about to pull the trigger.

Both sides looked tired teams from there and in the second period of extra time as players were dropping with cramp all over the pitch.
However, the Hall scored in the 113th minute when Man of the Match Hourihane drilled home from the edge of the box.
That was enough to bring the cup back to Douglas.
