Sars manager Johnny Crowley keen to blood new talent across the league

On a beautiful Sunday morning at Riverstown the Sars faithful were happy to see their team return to winning ways in the RedFM Division 1 HL following a comfortable 2-19 to 0-12 win over Killeagh.
The opening round home loss to Glen Rovers was disappointing but manager Johnny Crowley was satisfied with the effort on this occasion.
“It’s hard to weigh up how good our performance was but what impressed me was our attitude as the game itself was fairly one sided it and these type of games are hard to put a handle on,” said Crowley.
In the words of Crowley his side are presently building, and lack of fitness and match practice will improve in the coming weeks with some good league games on the horizon. The blooding of young players is always evident in Sars and Crowley believes that’s not going to change anytime soon.
“You try and get the young lads in as we have six players from last year’s team and six from this year’s squad and after playing an intermediate game yesterday nine U19 players were involved.
“Today we had five young players involved and for me everything is going well in that department,” added Crowley.

He felt they were sharper than they had been against the Glen.
“I wasn’t that disappointed at all as you are always going to get a tough game against the Glen and you could see they had a little more done than us.
“There were sharper than us and in fairness the better team won on the night and we have no complaints as we have no divine right to win every game.
“On a serious note we haven’t got down to real hurling yet as we are work in progress and with many of our elder lemons getting a good rest I do feel there is plenty of improvement to come.”
The introduction of Cian McCarthy as a sub was notable, as the son of the legendary Teddy has just transferred back to his lifelong club after a spell with Passage.
“After playing and scoring nine points for the Intermediate side on the eve of this game he then came on as a sub in this game and scored a magnificent point, so it was a good weekend for him.”
The next league game is away to unbeaten Charleville.
“Look Charleville are a fantastic league team and I have no doubt they will be there or thereabouts in the Senior championship this season.”
Crowley, one of the most successful club managers in this county, is looking forward to the forthcoming league final between Cork and Limerick.
“It will be a cracking final as I think both counties will want to win it and to be fair Cork have been hugely impressive throughout the league and Ben O’Connor has an array of talent as his disposal.
“I looked at Limerick play Galway and they had some wonderful performances from their young players especially Cathal O’Neill.
“Looking at the last 10 minutes against Galway, Limerick looked a little bit leggy but look you just don’t know and all be revealed in this intriguing final.”
