Cork defender Luke Fahy isn't getting carried away despite Cork’s brilliant win over Meath last Sunday afternoon.

A big crowd of 6,223 turned up to Páirc Uí Rinn for what was a crucial Allianz Division 2 Football League game.

Both sides had won their first three matches, so a lot was on the line with promotion the target for both teams.

The Rebels got over the line, just about, on a scoreline of 1-23 to 1-21 despite playing the last 13 minutes with 14 players following a straight red card for Ian Maguire.

“It’s two points, that’s all it is,” the Ballincollig man said post-match last weekend.

“We have a massive game now against Derry next Sunday. All the games we have left now are against teams more or less in the top half of the table. We will take every game as it comes.

“It was great to get a massive Cork crowd out against Meath. I want to make a point, without them I don’t think we would have got over the line. They got behind us, they got behind the referee, they got behind everything.

“When we went down to 14 players, I swear to God, the crowd were like an extra player for us. They helped us every step of the way. We are really appreciative of that.”

Fahy has been an integral part of the team in recent years most notably this season. It does seem he has gone to another level.

He saved the day against Meath when he made a heroic block to deny Meath a goal right at the death.

“I am just happy to be playing. It has been a tough two years, but that is forgotten about. It’s all about taking it game by game.

“We are under no illusions regarding the challenge next weekend. Derry are a serious outfit and it will take a lot to get over the line, but a challenge that we are really looking forward to.”
