Cork County Council launches cost rental homes in Carrigtwohill
The Baile Adaim schemes consist of 20 cost rental units, and this final launch is for 12 units.
Cork County Council has launched a cost rental scheme in Carrigtwohill which includes homes that are being made available at least 28% below the private market rents in the area.
The Baile Adaim schemes consist of 20 cost rental units, and this final launch is for 12 units: 4x1 bed apartments, 4x2 bed duplexes and 4x3 bed end of terrace houses.
Applications for the new one bed apartments, two bed duplexes and three bed houses will open at 12 noon on Monday May 18.
The scheme is aimed at people who do not own a home and are above the threshold for social housing, but have difficulty affording private rented accommodation.
Cost rental schemes provide a secure tenancy at a rent which is below the market rent in the local area and is a long term secure rental option.
This new tenure of rental property in Carrigtwohill is supported by the department of housing, local government and heritage.
Mayor of the county of Cork, Mary Linehan Foley, said:
“Cork County Council is delighted to announce the launch of this cost rental scheme in Carrigtwohill.
“This new scheme demonstrates the work that Cork county council is doing in achieving the targets set by the government.”
Applications for the scheme will be accepted between 12 noon on the May 18 and 12 noon on June 2 via the online application portal on the council website.
Houses will be allocated on a lottery basis to applicants, who have submitted all the required documents and who are deemed eligible for the scheme.
Renters will then enter a tenancy arrangement with the council.
