Waterloo booked their spot in the second round of the AOH Cup following a convincing 5-0 victory over Hibernians A at Whitechurch over the weekend.

Most of the damage was done in the first period as the Loo entered the break with a 4-0 advantage – leaving Hibernians an almost impossible task for the second period to negotiate with.

However, Hibs controlled very much of that second half, but did not have anyone with a clinical instinct up top to make their efforts count.

With just seconds into the action, the Loo threatened when from a long kick-out, the ball bounced in front of the in-rushing Scott Shine, but he hooked over near goal.

A terrific chance fell for the hosts again when a stray pass came kindly for Liam O’Leary, but as he made in-roads towards goal, touch left him down and the chance soon evaporated.

Hibs’ defence looked fragile from the off and they were soon punished when Scott Shine found a way in before slamming past a helpless Adam O’Donovan for the opener on nine minutes.

One minute later, Hibs’ early problems were further compounded when Laim O’Leary fired low past the Hibs keeper to double Waterloo’s advantage.

And following an effort from distance by Shane Keegan, Hibs fell further behind and again, it arose as a result of poor defensive play – Scott Shine won cheap possession before bearing down on goal to fire home clinically and make it 3-0 on 18.

The Loo were on top at this point and Adam O’Donovan had to be alert to punch clear from Jack O’Keeffe’s dangerous in-swinging effort.

Hibs were doing their best to bring some composure into their play and following decent build-up-play, Shane Keegan cracked a decent effort over.

But, it was further calamity for Hibs when a long ball out of defence setup up a race between Aaron Hickey and Scott Shine to claim possession and it was Shine, who won this dual before slotting past O’Donovan to make it now 4-0 on 33.

With just minutes left on the clock for the first period, Joshua Tawadrous played a neat pass for Shane Keegan, who was denied when his goal-bound effort deflected off Izak Cornin before going out for a corner.

Hibs A showed tremendous enthusiasm to their approach as the second half got under way and following a quickly taken free kick, Jake Ryan controlled possession before making Conor O’Regan work to save from his forceful effort.

Then Corey Griffin just failed to get his foot properly around a cross while unattended near the far post.

Neat build up play followed from Hibs A as they refused to be bowed and when Evan Barry found space outside the box, he failed to keep his effort down.

Hibs continued with so much enthusiasm and showed a lot of desire in trying to somehow get back into the contest and when Corey Griffin advance forward from his central defensive role, he came close with an effort from 25 yards out.

Minutes later, Griffin was denied when his strike on target was pushed away by Conor O’Regan for a corner.

Then, Shane Keegan got the better of his marker before firing an inviting cross in, that any striker would be grateful for, but on this occasion, it went to waste.

However, Hibs continued to toil and toil as Tawadrous forced O’Regan to a low save, but it was all in vain as the Loo grabbed a fifth with just seconds to go – Waterloo won a corner on the right and from the delivery, the ball broke inside the box as Lorcan Clinton pounced to steer home his side’s fifth to make it game set and match – 5-0 to Waterloo.
