The sudden and unexpected passing of Anthony Wall last week forced the cancellation of the weekend’s action at Castletownkenneigh.
Anthony, (51) was a member of the Mayfield Harrier Club and his training partnership with his close brother Denis was widely respected.
The Wall brothers were also clinical pigeon fanciers for many years winning many of the top races before deciding that draghunting was the next sport they would try and conquer.
The disbanded Wolfe Tone Harriers was Anthony’s first club, and his first hound Wolfe Tone Boy was a very useful animal in hunting oil.
When the club folded the Wall brothers did take a break from the sport but in the last few years they joined Mayfield harriers and were enjoying a great season with their aptly named hound Don’t Panic Lad.
The last draghunt this hound won was at the Sean and Monica Walsh memorial Senior maiden draghunt at the Fornaught on Sunday June June 22nd.
Chairman of the Cork City and County harriers association Damien Wade spoke of his sadness that has been felt throughout the sport.
“Anthony was a proud and dedicated member of both Mayfield harriers and the Cork City and County Harriers association.
“His commitment to the sport was incredible always willing to help people that made him a cherished member of our association.

“There is little doubt his loss will be deeply felt, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family on the passing of a true gentleman,” said Damien Wade.
Always heartbreaking to lose a special person and I would like to extend my deepest condolences his brothers Denis and Martin and extended family on the passing of a kind gentlemen.
The championship races continue to be competitive and by virtue of Sunday’s win at Stuake Sean T of Griffin United extended his lead at top of the Senior grade to six points over clubmate High Miss.
The long- time leader Wolfe Tone Lady of Northern Hunt has gone off the boil and now trails the leader by 13 points.
Another Griffin United hound, Knocks Boy is right there in the mix only 19 points off the leader, but his consistency will see him fight to the death in this intriguing championship race.
In the Senior Maiden table Rodman of Kerry Pike/Fair Hill harriers are locked on 41 points each but the complexion of this title race can change as when a hound wins four in this grade they get promoted to the Senior ranks.
