Cork boxers Kuba Pielesz and Christina Desmond keep their unbeaten runs going on the pro circuit
A very happy Kuba Pielesz celebrating after he beat Stefan Nicolae at the JB Promotions Professional Boxing Event at Leopardstown Racecourse in Dublin.
It proved a great weekend for Cork professional boxers Kuba Pielesz and Christina Desmond, as they both won their respective fights against tough opposition.
Pielesz came up against a very experienced Romanian in Stefan Nicolae in a four round Super Featherweight contest in JB Promotions UNFINISHED BUSINESS Card at the Pavilion Building, Leopardstown Racecourse in Dublin and put in a dazzling display to stop his man one minute and 42 seconds into the second round.
Meanwhile, at the Pabellon Municapal Ifach, Calpe in Alicante in Spain, Cork’s female professional boxer Christina Desmond had her fifth professional bout against English fighter Sherie Barnes in an contest scheduled for eight rounds and the southpaw came through it with flying colours with a second round stoppage.
Another Cork boxer Cathal Crowley, was supposed to fight Petr Strnad from Czechia also on the JB Promotion’s event, however, Crowley picked up a eye injury in his last sparring session last week and had to withdraw from the card.
Although he wanted to fight, he had to listen to the medical advice to withdraw because he has a huge fight against Dubliner Emmet Brennan for the Irish Super Middleweight title at the 3Arena in August.
What a second pro fight it was for Pielesz, as he showed all his class and skill set that definitely send his loyal supporters back to Leeside happy.
From the very first bell the Cork man showed the more composure and confidence, especially against such an experience opponent Nicolae, who had over 70 fights.

However, Pielesz worked well behind his left jab and caught the Romanian with a powerful right to the body that hurt his opponent in the opening minute.
Kuba was a lot more relaxed compared to his first fight in Cork a couple of months ago, and showed his class when he left his hands go to finish the round by hurting Nicolae with a flurry of powerful shots.
The second round started with Pielesz unleashing good combinations to his opponent head and body and sensed that he could get his opponent out early.
As for Nicolae he was just trying to survive, however, the Cork man was now oozing with confidence and after another flurry of punishing shots, the referee stepped in to stop the fight.
This was a superb performance by Pielesz and although this was only his second pro fight, he certainly proved he is going in the right direction.
“I am so happy with my performance, as I knew coming into this fight that I was boxing a very experienced opponent,” Kuba said.
“I worked very hard in my training camp with Pachal in Dublin at the Celtic Warriors Gym and Dave in Cork.
“I am also grateful to Jay Byrne from, JB Promotions for putting on this amazing card in a fantastic venue.
“Finally, I just want to thank everyone who traveled up to Dublin to support me and I can guarantee them more great nights like this,” Pielesz added.
Christina is rising through the professional ranks quickly with another superb performance against Manchester born Barnes.
Desmond was in total control in the opening round and was able to pick her opponent off with ease.
Desmond upped the tempo at the start of the second round and when she hurt her opponent with a powerful left hook, Barnes corner threw in the towel and the fight was stopped for Desmond to go now 5-0.
“I am overall very happy with my performance, especially taken this fight at short notice,” Christina said.
“I wasn’t too surprised when her corner through in the towel, as I was well on top and they didn’t was their fighter to get hurt.
“I have no real plans at the moment, as I will enjoy my few days away here in Spain and then is back home to get back training,” Desmond added.
