Newcestown got their first win in McCarthy Insurance League Division 1 after they got the better of Carrigaline at Carrigaline.
With both sides losing close battles in their first game they were determined to put that right and the home side weren’t helped as they only had five of their championship-winning team from last season available on the night.
They suffered another blow just four minutes in when Ryan Delaney had to go off with a head injury.
Three second-half goals were the difference, with Micheal McSweeney getting the first of them in the first minute after the restart.
Newcestown took the lead in the second minute when Seamus O’Sullivan pointed before Richard O’Sullivan got the first two-pointer, to put them 0-3 to no score up.
Kevin O’Reilly got Carrigaline off the mark and he added a second from a free, to put only one between the sides, after 10 minutes.
Niall Kelly got another two-pointer for Newcestown, this one from a free and Richard O’Sullivan, also from a free, added another one for the visitors to put them 0-7 to 0-2 in front.
Kelly added another, with Olan Walsh also pointing, not long after coming on as a sub, to put Newcestown 0-9 to 0-2 in front.
O’Reilly got Carrigaline’s third point, just before half-time, as the visitors were in control at the break, leading by 0-9 to 0-3.

The game was hardly on again when Micheál McSweeney scored Newcestown’s first goal, followed by a point from Richard O’Sullivan.
Carrigaline hit back with Ciaran Kearney and Brian Coakley both scoring two-pointers to reduce the deficit, to make it 1-10 to 0-7.
O’Reilly and Coakley added points, before McSweeney got Newcestown’s second goal, to end the game as a contest.
Coakley hit another two-pointer, but a late goal from Eddie Kenneally rounded off the scoring to see Newcestown pick up their first points in the league and Carrigaline without a win after two games.
